Helpful hints to ensure a clear recording:

The length of time a typist takes to transcribe a file will depend on a few factors. These include background noise, coughing, muffled speech, more than one person speaking at a time and whether we are required to identify the speakers. If the quality of the audio is not good, clients will need to allow for extra time for the typist to rewind and check unclear words, as well as the final revision of the completed document. This will affect the turnaround time we are able to provide.

  • Check the volume of the recorder. Ensure it is not set too loud or too low - we recommend that the recorder is set just past half way
  • Test the recorder to make sure that the recording works and you can clearly hear your voice
  • If possible, ensure that all people to be recorded are aware that the session is to be recorded. Make sure you are all close enough to the recorder
  • If you require us to list all speakers, please have all speakers introduce themselves when they first begin speaking
  • Have everyone organise themselves before recording the session - organising water, coffees and paperwork will all appear on the recording
  • Record in a quiet spot. We are aware that this is not always possible, but places where the background noise is excessive will mean that you may have bad audio quality of your recording

Once your audio reaches us by whichever method you select, we will confirm the length of all the files we have received and we will listen to a sample of the audio. We will then email you to confirm these details and also confirm the rate and the completion date and time.
